Database Migration Process

The database migration process starts by completing the Database Migration Questionnaire (Below) to identify the scope of the migration and assess the qualifications/capabilities/interests of Bull (or our partners).

Typically the data migration process then continues with:

  • Running analysis tools on customer schema.
    • Determine the extent of the initial conversion
    • Evaluate the current conversion tools
  • Teleconferencing with the customer.
    • Ascertain the amount of training and testing
    • Determine whether the customer wants to have Bull:
    • Do the full database migration, application modifications and acceptance test; or Provide customer training only, with follow-up consultation
  • Proposing the pricing and timeline (SOW).
  • Documenting the project plan.
    • Describe the customer's timeline
    • Define the work to be done, the priority, and the schedule
  • Building the new database.
    • Migrate the schema and stored procedures
    • Populate the new database (with real data or customer-created test data)
  • Modifying the customer's applications where necessary.
    • Done in partnership with the customer
    • Modify SQL statements only (no modifications to business logic)
  • Performing the acceptance test and checking test results.
  • Completing the Integration.
    • Do load leveling and disaster recovery
    • Help the customer move the remaining applications to the new system
